I want to ask about the Opition(A):They. The explanation of OG is : The sentence needs to make clear whether provisions or code is the subject of the main verb stimulated. In the predicate nominative instead of the subject position, provisions is not an obvious referent for the pronoun they
BUT why not they refer toprovisions of the new maritime code？

(B) Because the new maritime code provides that even tiny islets can be the basis for claims to the fisheries and oil fields of large sea areas, it has already stimulated

I hope you are well. The OG explanation is a bit confusing:) This looks like pronoun ambiguity. The pronoun "they" could refer to multiple nouns earlier in the sentence. Here is a simple version of the issue: Bob and Jim robbed the liquor store and he shot the clerk. Who shot the clerk? We don't know because "he" could refer to Bob or Jim. When considering whether a GMAT sentence has pronoun ambiguity come back to this simple sentence. Pronoun ambiguity is tricky. There are times when you might think that a pronoun is ambiguous but in fact according to the GMAT it is fine. My rule is: Ambiguity must be clear. Unless the ambiguity is clear it would be one of the last things I would use to eliminate a GMAT sentence correction answer choice. Let me know if you have any questions!
