area of the field without the walkway would be 3.5m and 9.5m
area is now = 33.25 and at \$5/sqm = 166.25

First determine the total area of the walkway.
To do this, we'll divide the walkway into 3 rectangles as follows:

Aside: We assigned some nice dimensions that adhere to the conditions provided in the question.

Area of rectangle = (base)(height)

Area of RED rectangle = (10)(0.5) = 5
Area of GREEN rectangle = (1.5)(0.5) = 0.75
Area of BLUE rectangle = (2)(0.5) = 1
TOTAL area of walkway = 5 + 0.75 + 1 = 6.75 square meters

Total area of non-walkway portion = (total area of field) - (total area of walkway)
= (10)(4) - 6.75
= 40 - 6.75
= 33.25

If the cost of paving the area other than the walkway is 5\$ per sqm what is the total cost incurred?
Cost = (5)(33.25)
= 166.25

Area of the field without walkway = 10 x 4 - (10 x 0.5 + 4 x 0.5 - 0.5 x 0.5) = 40 - (5 + 2 - 0.25) = 40 - 6.75 = 33.25 m^2
Hence, the total cost = 33.25 x 5 = \$166.25 (choice B)
