Rug's area = 120
which is (x) x (2+x) = 120
so x= 10
rug maintains a uniform distance of 2 feet
so room has dimension 10+4 and 12+4 i.e. 14 and 16
area of room 14x16 = 224
area covered is 120
so uncovered area is 224-120=104

As you can see from the question, rug’s area is 120 and the length is 2 feet longer than the width.
Hence, we can obtain a figure like the one below. So, if we calculate, we get (12+4)(10+4)-12*10=104. The correct answer, thus, is E.
