This is a slightly wordy and challenging question but we can manage it efficiently by carefully writing down the 4 categories and assigning them the values based on the stem.
Category 1: Below 8 and dislike soccer
Category 2: Below 8 and like soccer
Category 3: Between 8 and 18 and dislike soccer
Category 4: Between 8 and 18 and like soccer
Let total children be 100
According to the data provided in the stem
C3: 10
C4: 40-10 = 30
But this 30 is 50% of all those who like therefore, C2 also = 30
Therefore, C1 = 100-30-30-10 = 30
Hence, E.

Tables seemed to help me. With 0.5x+10=40, I solved x = 60 and finally giving ? = 30
