assuming they had x subscribers last year
they earned x*250
after the new tax law
they earned (x-400)*300
as per the question
250x=300x-120000
x=120000/50
x=2400

Let the total number subscribers the magazine have last year = N
Program lost 400 subscribers and still was able to collect the same revenue .
Revenue earned by subscriber last year * number of subscribers in last year = Revenue earned by subscriber in current year * number of subscribers in current year
250 * N = 300*(N-400)
=> 5N = 6N - 2400
=> N = 2400
