A suggestion for all applicants

Question

Please make sure that you save your copy of essays reliably in your web mail account or somewhere other than your computer. Hard disk failures are quite common and you dont want to lose your hard work at a very wrong time. A simple idea will be to zip all essays by school and put it in yahoo mail/gmail after every major update.

Yeah. When I planned to start working on the essays / drafts, I first went on to setup a desktop (Ubuntu) running backuppc that takes incremental backups of our laptops every evening. An overkill for the non-IT people, though.

Ahh the advantages of being an IT geek. :-D

I have a fileserver running windows 2k sever with hardware raid1 that gets backups every night. I do need to do something to mitigate the risk of a fire or something. Gmail might be the right way to store weekly backups.

I just saved all my application materials to a folder backed them up to a flash drive each time I finished some work. Even if you type a whole bunch, it won't be more than a few megabytes. A 1gb flash drive costs about $10 these days.
