A Superbowl sponsor X has a 30 sec commerical that is part of the 15 different commercials the network will show in the first commercial break .

What is the probability that Company X'’s advertisement will be one of the first two be shown during the fi…rst commercial break?

(A) 1/ 225
(B) 1 / 30
(C) 1 /15
(D) 2 / 15
(E) 4 /15

Or you can simply view it as 2 favorable spots (1st or 2nd) out of 15 available ones so probability = 2/15

Solution:

The probability that Company X’s advertisement will not be one of the first two shown during the first commercial break is 14/15 x 13/14 = 13/15. Therefore, the probability it will be one of the first two shown during the first commercial break is 1 - 13/15 = 2/15.
