Folks, pls explain how to solve this problem in a timely manner because this is GMAT math......................................................................

9,999,999*9,999,999=(10,000,000-1)^2=10,000,000^2-2*10,000,000+1
You can get it from here.

A similar type of question would be:
What is 9998*10002

Agree with Hong....I think as a rule whenever u see a number 99999 etc always represent that number so that you have something in multiple of 10.

Also notice that 19^2 is equal to 20^2 - (20+19), and 99^=100^2 - (199), so 9,999,999*9,999,999 is equal to 10,000,000^2 - 19,000,000

Yes it is a good trick to remember. I'd say that it is very likely that you get one question like one of the two types we discussed here in the real test.
