So, my apps are in and there's nothing much for me to do but sit around and wait and get nervous. I've been trying to find ways to keep myself occupied.
I don't know if a lot of you know about this site, but I just found out about it: mp3tunes.com.
https://www.mp3tunes.com/
They sell music and stuff, but the really cool feature is that they offer an online music storage locker. You can sign up for a locker and sync the music from your computer up with it. The free locker has just 1GB, but they are currently offing upgrades to unlimited storage. I believe if you fill up your 1GB, they will upgrade your right away - my account was upgraded within a day or after I filled it up.
After your music is synced into your locker, you can access it from the web and stream it to other devices. So, for example, I store my music on my desktop computer, but I can now access it when I am away from home with my laptop, or even my smartphone but at doesn't work really well just yet. They need to develop the client software further.
As mentioned in the title, this is great for people with big music collections. I have 120GB+ of music, so storing it in my ipod or laptop is out of the question. This way, if the song I want to hear is not stored in my laptop, I can just pull it up on the web anywhere I have web access.
Also, those of you with huge music collections probably find that it's a pain in the ass to backup your music. This takes care of it - offsite and for free no less (once they upgrade you).
One drawback is that the uploading process is really really slow. In fact, I've been doing it for 2 weeks and I'm only about 1/2 way done. I suggesting moving small batches into a sync folder, and letting the program work with a little at a time.
Once I get all the music loaded up, I'll be able to access it when I get to campus next year, with the wi-fi that most campuses have. I thought some of you might like this.
