Recently, I find there is free GMAT practice test from kaplan official website. However, I'm curious whether the free test has the same question pool with kaplan's CD-ROM. It will harm my scores on my later practice test if having identical question pool with CD-ROM.

Not really, I took both the free practice test and Kaplan tests from the CD. First of all, the free practice test looks nothing like the Kaplan tests and questions seem easier on the free practice test.

Just my 2 cents...

Kaplan's free test on the site is EXACTLY the same as the model test given in the Book " Higher Score on GMAT" by Kaplan. However the online test does not give detailed explanations.

The strategy then is take the test online, and get explanation from the book ! :lol:
It is however , not same as the GMAT diagnostic on the CD. I am yet to take the Full length tests , so can't tell about that. :-D

Is the free test the same as the online test in Kaplan's book (2006 edition)?

It says there are six tests in this book: one in the book, four on the CD and one online.

I am wondering if the online one is the same as the free test online.

From what I gather, the free test is linear, not CAT. Which means that, for high scorers, it's going to be easier than the real CAT, because the questions don't get harder as you go along. Similarly, for low scorers it will seem harder, cause it doesn't "adapt" to get easier. Think of the online practice test as a question bank more than a practice CAT.

Is the free test the same as the online test of the 2006 edition? If so, maybe I will buy the 2005 edition instead.

Kaplan also had an onsite test for free through their website. Has anyone made us of the test at the center? They say that it is used to simulate the real exam, so it must be a CAT.

the onsite test is only if you are registered for a Kaplan course... besides it is NOT ETS GMAT... its a Kaplan GMAT.
