Hi
I am from a Tier 1 engineering college in India and have been working with one of the top management consulting firms since then. I have decent extra curricular and overall I believe I have a good shot at an MBA. I am done with my essays for one of the schools (in India) and feel they are in great shape.
I was going through the form and at the very last step I noticed that they had a question about academic dishonesty framed as " Have you ever been found to be in violation of academic integrity?" and asking for an explanation if the answer is yes. I had a case of Plagiarism during my freshman year. I had given my code to a friend to get some support on debugging but they forwarded it to someone else without my knowledge. The person ended up submitting it as their own and I did not find out until the day I received the official mail from the prof. The professor was not ready to listen and gave both of us 1-grade reduction.
While the lower grade is shown on my transcript, there is no proof of it being a result of a disciplinary action and seems as if it's what I had scored in the exam. There is no mention of it on any other documents that I'm submitting either but I think it is there in the internal record of my undergrad college. I spoke to some alums of the B school I am aiming for and their suggestion was not to mention anything since no proof of it is given on my transcript. However, I am concerned about that if I get an admit, then can this info come out during background checks with the college? I have been told that background checks are mostly just to verify if all the documents submitted by you are correct so it should not come up since the case was dismissed after the reduction in grades, nothing is given on my transcript and I was not asked to take a semester off or anything. I am gonna check with my undergrad institute on the procedure etc as well but just wanted to check if anyone has been through a similar situation and what can be the optimal way to go about it.
Thank you
