According to a wildlife reintroduction project, exactly four species will be reintroduced in one of three regions: Highlands, Wetlands, or Grasslands. Eight species are under consideration: Wolf, Bison, Otter, Lynx, Bear, Eagle, Elk, and Sheep. The reintroduction follows these rules:

  1. Eagle can be reintroduced only if the project is not in the Wetlands.
  2. Bear can be reintroduced only if Bison is also reintroduced.
  3. Bison can be reintroduced only if the project is in the Highlands or Wetlands.
  4. Wolf can be reintroduced only if the project is in the Highlands.
  5. Of the three species Otter, Lynx, and Sheep, exactly one may be reintroduced.

Based on the information above, and assuming Bear is reintroduced and the project is not in the Highlands, in the first column select the species that must also be reintroduced, and in the second column select the species that will not be reintroduced. Make only two selections, one in each column.
As per question : EXACTLY 4 species are Introduced in 3 REGIONS - Highland, Wetland and Grass land.

Eight species are under consideration: Wolf, Bison, Otter, Lynx, Bear, Eagle, Elk, and Sheep.

Rules:

1) Eagle Yes if the project region is NOT wetland , Hence, the regions can be EITHER Highland OR Grassland.

2) IF Bison is introduced ——-> then, BEAR can be introduced.

3) Bison introduction only in areas Highland and Wetland. So, Bison is not introduced in wetland.

4) Wolf only in highland, so wolf CANNOT be introduced in WET, GRASSLAND.

5) Lastly, out of the three ( Otter, Lynx, Sheep) ONLY ONE is introduced.

question criteria : assuming Bear is reintroduced and the project is not in the Highlands

so, In HIGHLAND : as per 4 (WOLF), as per 3( Bison), based on 2 ( BEAR ) , and as per 1 ( EAGLE ). The quota of 4 per region is filled for Highland.

For WETLAND :

The animal choices are : Bison, and Bear.

Eagle and wolf are NOT included.

Amongst three ( Otter, Lynx and Sheep) only one can be choosen.

Out of 7 animals, ONLY 3 slots are filled for WETLANDS. The last slot can be allotted for ELk.

HIGHLAND WETLAND GRASSLAND
WOLF Yes No No
BISON Yes Yes No
OTTER No
LYNX No
BEAR Yes Yes No
EAGLE Yes No Yes
SHEEP No
ELK No Yes

Can Be introduced : ELK

Cannot Be Introduced: EAGLE.

As per the question stem and looking at the conditions given, lets pen down all that we know for sure

given that only 4 species out of 8 has to be introduced in one of the 3 given regions, question stem mentions bear is reintroduced and it is not the highland region. What we know from conditions mentioned is bear is reintroduced only bison is there, so bison has to be there and we got 2 species, 2nd we know bison will be in either highland or wetland and as per given info highland is out so, the region is wetland, so confirmed, wetland region.

Now look at the table, in options Eagle is given, and we know that eagle will not be reintroduced in wetland region, so we got 2nd column choice its Eagle which will not be reintroduced.

Now looking at the first column, the left options are otter, lynx, elk and sheep, we already got 2 species for the, also as per condition out of otter, lynx, and sheep only one will be reintroduced, so, the left spot is for elk, bingo.
