My answer is (C). It took me 02:13.

(A) While it is not automatically wrong to use "simple present tense (develop)" to describe a historical fact of Americans born before 1925, it is unacceptable to follow up with a "simple past tense (did so)" for the related information of Americans born since 1950.

(B) "they" in "if they" refers to Americans born before 1925. Therefore, subjunctive mood is needed after if.

(C) No obvious issue. Keep for now.

(D) While "obesity develops" is fine, "Obesity develops by the age of 65" indicates, illogically, that obesity has an age.

With so many numbers aggregated together in "by the age of 35 by the 35 percent born since 1950", readers have much difficulty understanding the its intended meaning.

(E) "do" should at least be "do so". For parallelism, it should likely be "have done so".

According to government health statistics, Americans born before 1925 develop obesity by the age of 65 only 8 percent of the time, but 35 percent of those born since 1950 did so by age 35.

A) Americans born before 1925 develop obesity by the age of 65 only 8 percent of the time, but 35 percent of those born since 1950 did so by age 35.
did so isn't making perfect sense C conveys the meaning better

B) Only 8 percent of Americans born before 1925 developed obesity by the age of 65; if they are born since 1950, 35 percent develop obesity by the age 35.
if clauses isn't required therefore out

C) Only 8 percent of Americans born before 1925 developed obesity by the age of 65; of those born since 1950, 35 percent developed obesity by the age of 35.
THe emaning is fine therefore let us hang on to it

D) Obesity develops by the age of 65 in only 8 percent of Americans born before 1925, and by the age of 35 by the 35 percent born since 1950.
too many 'by the ' distorting the meaning, along with that and is a minor red flag therefore out

E) Of Americans born before 1925, only 8 percent of them have developed obesity by the age of 65, but 35 percent of those born since 1950 do by the age of 35.
do so what do they do so , the meaning isn't clear therefore out

THerefore IMO C
