I would choose between (C) and (E) but will go for (E) as it use the right idiom: not so much....as

A according to me.

so much..as is the correct idiom, which eliminates B,C,D
The cause of genetic irregularies is this or that, hence E distorts the meaning.

I eliminate C,D,E because "it" is not clear.

A is more idiomatic than B.
