I have taken a couple of practice tests so far..one when i started prep and one after...the first time i scored 560, second time 600...since then i have reviewed the concepts again and been going through the official guide questions... on an average i am getting 7-8 of every 10 questions right....i dont think i am ready to take another prep test as yet...how do i improve my accuracy level? the mistakes are mostly because i dont read the question properly or am running out of time and rushing my way through...i appreciate any suggestions you can throw my way...

You already know why you are making mistakes so that's work half done.

People don't read the questions properly if they have time pressure so most of your problem could be identified as 'time management'.

Know this - GMAT gives you ample time in Quant as well as Verbal. You need to know how to use it efficiently. Do you read a question halfway through in Verbal, find yourself lost and start reading again? That's lack of focus. You cannot drift away and need to be present at all times. You also need to establish a strategy e.g. our CR book discusses the advantages of reading the question stem first. Once you get used to it, the moment you would see a CR question, you would pounce on the question stem and figure out the type of question. Then you will actively cruise through the argument looking for relevant info. By the time you are done, you are already forming an acceptable answer in your mind. These little things save a lot of time and give you a lot of confidence.

Do you fall short in Quant section too? Most official GMAT questions can be easily done in under a minute, honestly. They don't require long calculations. What they require is thorough understanding. When people don't really understand their concepts well, they often take a very circuitous path - a big waste of time. You might get stuck at some questions but then you have ample time since most questions can be done in under a minute.
