Thanks - I have mentioned this in the chat but will post here too.
Search and other search related features (tags, active posts, self posts, etc) are currently inactive due to an attack we experienced this morning. It was exploiting a weakness in PHPBB forum software that we use and took down the site for about 1 minute (denial of service attack). This happened twice during an interval of a few minutes and the third time we disabled search to prevent the server from becoming unresponsive. We are looking to patch the exploit and will enable search right after. Sorry for the inconvenience.

But good to know nothing's wrong with my individual account permissions, if everybody is getting this same error
