Yesterday I gave Veritas free mock and scored 620 V29 Q47. I think I got lucky in verbal because I had to guess the last 6 questions and got 3 correct. I don't know how to manage time in the verbal section. In quant, it is straight forward either I know or I don't know. How am I supposed to do that in verbal?
I will be appearing for GMAT around 15th October and I want to score 650+ please help me to strategize this one month.

Hi AnushkaPatel961,

Not being able to manage time is only a symptom. The actual cause lies somewhere else. It is important to identify the cause and work on it. Only when you work on your weakness and convert it to your strength, you will be able to score well. Let me elaborate it to you.

There might be two reasons for your struggle. The first reason could be gaps in conceptual understanding and the second reason could be your lack of application of concepts. If it is the first one, I recommend you to get a thorough understanding of the concepts. If it is the second one, then my suggestion would be to
  • understand the right methodology,
  • spend time on analyzing the solutions
  • and then practice a few questions using that methodology so that it comes as a natural process to you.

There are high chances that you are lacking with the application of concepts. Because most people learn the concepts and directly jump into solving questions. They miss the most important step of learning the methodology. If you are wondering what do I mean by the right methodology let me explain it you. While solving CR questions, it is important to follow a step-by-step process.
  • Read the passage carefully and identify the individual components - premise, conclusion
  • Understand the scope of the argument and the purpose
  • Identify the missing link and start pre-thinking
  • Now start eliminating answer choices which are not in-line with your pre-thought assumption

This is the methodology that you have to use while solving CR questions. The process might take a little more time during the initial stages, but once you get used to it, it will save a lot of time for you. I often tell students that do not time yourselves while learning the methodology. The focus should be on learning the method and getting the answer right.

Having said that, as you have only a month's time, I recommend you to have a proper study plan, organize the things you have to focus on. To do that, I would suggest you to connect over a call with me, so that we can solve a few questions and understand if it is the lack of conceptual understanding or application that is holding you back. Based on that, we can narrow down things and make a proper study plan. If you wish to connect over a call and discuss things, you can do the same using the below link.

I took both the official practice exam in November-December 2019 before my first attempt. In both the exam I had scored 500 (Q35, V23)(Q36, V22)
Hi AnushkaPatel961, my suggestion would be to give more official mock tests (the paid ones), since that would give you the most accurate perspective in terms of your current standing.

Hi AnushkaPatel961,

Assuming that you took this recent CAT in a realistic fashion that matches-up with what you will face when you take the Official GMAT, you are remarkably close to a 650+ right now. In addition, to hit your Score Goal, you do NOT need to correctly answer ANY questions that you think are too hard or too weird, but you do have to keep the little mistakes to a minimum on everything else (especially the "gettable" questions in each section). After reviewing that CAT, how many questions did you think were hard/challenging and got wrong - and how much time did you spend on those questions?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hi AnushkaPatel961.

Out of curiosity, have you taken any official GMAC practice exams? If so, how did you score?

I took both the official practice exam in November-December 2019 before my first attempt. In both the exam I had scored 500 (Q35, V23)(Q36, V22)

Do you have any fresh ones that you could take now?
