Hi folks,
I am an Indian applicant currently working in Canada as a Product Manager.
Prior to moving to Canada, I had been working in USA and an chip designer at one of the semi-conductor giants. I was working as a chip designer for 4 years and have very successful stint.
But I was always passionate about Product Management as I wanted to experience a product lifecycle at a higher level of abstraction, hence the reason for the transition. Also, I wanted to experience a new country and a new culture and the experience of working in another country (hope these points work in my favor as an Indian applicant
), hence Canada perfectly fit the bill as I could be close to USA which is where I want to pursue my Full Time MBA.
I am concerned about one thing though, during this transition in moving from USA to Canada and before starting my job as a Product Manager, I had 6 month gap in employment. I used this period in getting certified in Product Management which led to me securing a job as a Product Manager. Also I was actively involved in volunteering and non-profits during this employment gap.
Please advise if this my situation will raise a red flag to the admissions committee while reviewing my application, I plan to apply for R1 in 2020.

In a 4-year career (closer to 5.5-6 by the time you begin B-school, if all goes well later this year), a 6 month gap is not a huge issue. Just make sure that you explain the reason for the gap, and the things you did within it. Given that you are now employed again, it will not hamper your chances.

You could always address this gap in the Optional Essay for each of the schools you intend to apply to. The good part is that you made use of your time to pursue a relevant certification and involved yourself in a range of activities. Keep the essay crisp and honest and we are confident that the Ad Com will be able to appreciate your intentions.
