I faced a similar issue earlier. I just wrote my consultant a polite "feedback" email with heavy praise for the good work plus a sprinkle of areas for improvement, and that had a great effect. It wasnt that my consultant wasnt trying, it was that s/he was prioritizing different things than I wanted. Try having a frank conversation/email before giving up.

It depends if your consultant was at least prepared in his/her own way to help you fully, but it was not coming through properly in the conversation. For this consultant, I am not so sure. At least he or she should try to show that he understands my background fully ( I spent about 7 hours filling out in detail the background form they gave me to fill).

That may be the case, but did you tell your consultant about your disappointment?

I wrote an email to him clearly saying - it is very important that he understand my background fully. he replies within a few minutes saying that i should not worry as he she will have the resume handy during conversation. I dont know what to say. Here I am being so thoughtful in trying to communicate with him her respecting their top b school background and all it takes for him or her is a few minutes of thought to get back with a reply.

Are my expectation misplaced? I have paid around 6k and am applying to r2. I looked at the their policy and it says they will set up with a consultant that I like before engagement begins. But in my case engagement has already begun, too bad i did not chat with him her before.

i absolutely understand what you are saying, and i do not think your expectations are misplaced. you want someone who cares enough to know your background well, and is thinking collaboratively with you. i do not think that is what most consultants do. i have interacted with a three top names, and finally concluded that i am smart enough to do the thinking and writing myself...i ended up convincing a friend to do the editing...

i think you should push them....just having a resume is not what you are expecting....you will feel disappointed throughout the process....worst case drop them and find some one else...

I personally have had experiences with two of the good ones. One is on this board and one is a best seller author. But if someone needs honest feedback, pm me and I will share my experiences.

There are positives and negatives, but one thing I have realized is that it is better to find a friend who is close to you and who is willing to listen and brainstorm with you on essay writing process. For me, spending thousands is not worth. I learned my lessons and I can see completely what you are going through

I strongly feel that confidence is paramount. Nothing else matters. As it is one has enough problems writing essays and applications etc. no need to worry about helping the other guy work with you. Call the guy say - you are not able to work with him/her ask for a replacement. Else you would always be thinking "what if"

I think you should definitely speak up about it. If you don't feel comfortable confronting your consultant, you should contact the company. I've heard lots of mixed reviews on stacy b... feel free to PM me

definitely say something, they owe you for all you spent, if you do not get a good result complain / call BBB etc. they should not be able to collect money and provide a crappy service, i'd ask for a refund or better consultant. furthermore, i would make it clear that i would share my experience w/ peers etc, they need you more than you need them...

i think this mba game is ridiculous, it is such a business and half the consultants claim to have some inside track, the application should be a true reflection of you, if you need help, use friends, peers, etc and trust in yourself, thats the route i am going and in march if i am not 6 for 6 i will eat my words

Lol, I definitely agree with your general message but I man you have a lot of confidence if you expect to go 6 for 6! Heck, if you're that sure, why not just apply to your top one or two schools and save yourself a lot of time and money? :-D

You definitely have to have confidence but not too much confidence! Adcoms seem to like introspective and humble confidence with a healthy dose of self awareness. also since the way they select students is more of an art rather than a science, it keeps you on your toes. So far I'm 3 for 4 and I'm debating whether to keep going for 4 for 5 since at the end of the day I can only go to one school!

Best of luck! I'll be rooting for you and maybe I'll see you in class this fall.
