Hi,
My GMAT score is lowish and I was wondering if I should have submitted a GRE instead (thus if I should take it in case I am waitlisted or for round 3 apps). I found in many sources that the GRE average was not reported by schools so for low scores it’s preferred to take the GRE for that reason, but I also found published average in school websites… I don’t get it. Why is it an advantage if they report the GRE average scores anyway ?

I can't speak to your sources or what you have read, but you are overthinking all of this. The two exams are treated equally from an admissions perspective. They favor slightly different skills/areas, so some people do better on one than the other. That's perfectly fine.
The key is to submit a score that is strongest relative to the overall percentiles and the schools averages. That information is almost always public.
If you think you can do better on the GRE than the GMAT, it's worth giving it a go. Sometimes schools will accept a new score if you are on the waitlist. After all, doing so, allows the schools to bump up their averages, so it's a win-win (as long as you get off the waitlist!)

Okay so it's treated equally, in the past I have seen a lot of publication / videos etc. saying that the advantage of the GRE is that its averages are not published / taken into account for school rankings. The may be not true anymore.
I will definitely try the GRE in case I am waitlisted
