Hey everyone!
I think this is a great community, it is such a valuable resource for GMAT prep.
Decided the take the GMAT in about three weeks, and aiming for a score at around 645+. This is the average for a MSc at Stockholm School of Economics, if someone is curious.
Reading is my strong part, and I estimate to get around 70-80% on the verbal. I got the MGMAT set and did about 1 days worth of reading (only quant). Today I took the official practice test, but only answered the quant questions. Did it two times and got around 65% correct both times. My math skills are very low, and I did a minimum amount in high school.
Does the amount of correct answers correspond with the score, even if I get the first 4 or 5 questions wrong?
Is it reasonable to get 645 with 2.5 weeks of practicing (tests, practice questions) only quant? Assuming I do 70-80% on the verbal part. 2hrs of focused studying per day is what I expect.
How hard can I rely on my first test scores?
Anyone else who hates reading quant textbooks and learned by doing examples? Advice?

Percentile on each section doesn't correspond to what percent of questions you got correct. Your score is determined by how many questions you get right and what difficulty levels you get right and wrong. It's a complicated algorithm that's not really worth worrying about. So there's a correlation between number correct and score, but it's not a linear relationship or anything.
And it's very unlikely you'll get a 645 within 3 weeks...mainly because the scores come in increments of 10.
If you want to shoot for a 650+ it's hard to say how realistic that is without knowing what your starting point is. If you can take a full-length CAT exam to get a baseline for yourself that'll help, then spend the next few weeks working your way through some study guides that teach you how to analyze the problems. Focus on learning skills to crack the problems rather than just working a lot of problems.
Don't neglect verbal--if you're already fairly strong in it you can boost your score even more by learning the techniques for CR problems. A 90+ percentile on verbal can help carry a relatively low quant in terms of your overall score.

Since 640 is not a "sky" score it's quite doable to prep in quant part for that result. Essential here is picking right techniques and doing OG problems. Also pick up questions from questions banks on MGMAT site. You need to be pretty sure, however, about your verbal to focus only on quant part.
