Hi,
I have been studying around for 3 months now and my weakest area is SC. I gave a few mock tests so far and my Verbal scores ranged between 39-41.In all these mocks I made a total 3 mistakes in CR and RC and between 7-9 mistakes in SC. I have already gone through Manhattan SC, Powerscore SC Bible and the Verbal OG. While solving the SC questions in the Verbal OG I only got 75% of the answers correct. I plan on giving the Exam next month but I need to improve in SC. I have been just focusing on SC from the beginning of this month, but there has been little improvement. I do understand the grammar rules. Is there anyway I can improve my SC accuracy? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks
Ziyad

Please allow me to understand the whole scenario.
Which mock tests have you given
If possible please upload the chart of tests.
It is indeed possible to get more difficult SC questions after you've done so many CRs AND RCs correct. Allow me to understnad, You've definitely got a good grasp on CR rc, seems so, but need to understand what the scenario is.

It is probably because you missed some part of the questions. That is a common error, Get aristotle's SC guide if you need. And see solutions of all SC questions from test to see what went wrong. Relax, SC is the easiest part on GMAT if you know how to do it right.

Let me know if you need more help, a kudos on my comments as a sign of gratitude is always a gesture in good faith and motivates us to help further, thank you

I have only given the 2 free mba.com mocks so far. Unfortunately there is no chart available for the exams I have given so far. Yes I do understand that the SC questions might have been difficult but I feel that since a large portion of my SC answers was wrong I will have to try and improve in SC. I don't think I have a good grasp on CR and RC but it seems to me at this moment I will need to improve in SC by a lot and fast as I am planning on giving the exam next month.

I have already gone through The Manhattan SC book thrice and Powerscore SC Bible once. Is the content in the Aristole SC grail different from what is being discussed in these books?

A lil bit on basics definitely

But there is a book that is really different from all 3 of these

Veritas prep guide, search for it online. That book has worked wonders.

Also there is an app of Veritas that will guide you according to that book. Questions and strategies are pure gold

Let me know if you need more help.

You already appear to know the basics of grammar rules. You have also studied from multiple books.

My suggestions:

* Do not go for more new books, prep stuff, etc.

Instead, do the following:

* Develop your own approach to SC.

* Do untimed exercises.

* Analyze every response and every question, even if that takes an hour to analyze just one item.

* Repeat process.

My view:

OG chapter introductions and OG questions are the ideal prep materials. Materials from non OG vary widely in quality. Most of them do not conform to OG standards.

Developing verbal abilities takes time. You would be wise to postpone any test.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have already started reviewing the questions in the verbal OG and am spending almost 10 min per question in order to understand it better. Hoping this method helps cause I’m out of ideas after this.

So I finished going through the OG verbal a few days back. Spent atleast 10 minute reviewing each SC question whether I got the answer correct or not. However I gave a Veritas mock and was dismayed to see that I had answered incorrect 9 out of 15 SC questions. What more can I do to improve in SC?

I recommend that you use only OGs to test your understanding and measure your performance. Even if you have seen the questions previously, it is very worthwhile to repeat.

Most third-party verbal materials fall far short of GMAT standards. You may be misled or worse ruin yourself if you rest your preparation on non-official materials.

If you are consistently doing well in official materials, then that will be good for you. Use other materials at your own risk. Good luck!

Sc is relatively easier than CR and RC, I suggest you focus on all of the three segments, you can touch a V36+ by just making two strong and third average

I'm afraid, I'd have to suggest you to apply instead, GMAC has apparently made some changes in the algorithm, where once V36 Q49 could get you a 700, now, it isn't so. The kind of scoring they use is one of a kind. But I do think that giving GMAT again would not be a wise use of your time, a time you could employ in application process. Making yourself indispensable, you can truly use that 710 figure to move further
