Hello Andrew!

Thanks for your valuable insights!!

Yes as you said, changing name in legal documents will take 15-30 days in India. After that GMAC will take 3-5 days to update my surname in my account, according to gmac customer service. Also, I am not sure about the availability of slot at that time. So the whole process may take 30 days.

Even I thought to create a new account and book the exam. When asked about this, Gmac customer service said they don't recommend this as this violates their policy.

I dont know how this violates their policy. since I didn't give my first attempt.

I am not sure what to do now!!

You never took the test, so you have violated nothing. In fact, you were barred from taking the test for a silly reason, so you are just doing what I think a sensible person would do. It is not as though GMAC™ will terminate your test scores after the fact when all of your documentation will match your passport anyway. If you want to take the test soon, you need to do what you can to take it. Otherwise, I would get in touch with GMAC™ again and ask about which specific policy or policies you would be violating, in light of the fact that you have been unsuccessful at sitting for the exam in your current situation. One way or another, you are going to have to change documents. Either take the test sooner or take it later, abiding by these vague policies all the while. (To be clear, I am not suggesting that you flout any GMAC™ policy. My thinking is that if you have set aside time to take the test before the end of December, then you need to do what you can to achieve that aim.)

Good luck, one way or the other. I am sure you will be happier once this mess is all behind you.

- Andrew
