The African ivory trade was substantial and long-lasting, having begun atleat as early as the secon millenium B.C., in which ivory from Nubia was first exported to Egypt.

a

c. long-lasting; it had a beginning that was atleast the second millenium B.C., in which

d. long-lasting, beginning at least as early as the second millenium B.B, when

e. lasting a long time, beginning at least as early as the seconf millenium B.C., in which

C) it had ...beginning that .. that is reduntant here .. so incorrect.

D,E- incorrect modifiers

A) having begun ..incorrect.

so B is best choice

What does it refer to and also it had a beginning that was atleast the second millenium B.C sounds little clumsy to me,

second millenium B.C - is a precise time as far as year is concerned.
one should not use in which to refer to an year
for a time period - in which can be used.

I believe D makes sense.

second millenium is a time period and not a precise time. With that logic D will collapse.

isn't year 2000 second millenium A.D ?

I am confused now. Do we say year 2003 also second millenium A.D ?

I think D still holds its ground...

'in which' is used to refer to a particular year...so it cannot be used as a pronoun for millenium but 'when' is more generic and can be used to refer to a millenium.Just my line of thought ..Im not sure abt it.

Millenium is for thousand year and second millenium means second thousand years, in my opinion. Anyways it doesnt matter, D it is guys. anandnk :lol:
