Answer is (A)
(2) is insufficient since we don't know it it was his first, second, third or fourth day of work: we have an incertitude of 4 days => we can't conclude anything about any particular day
(1) is sufficient. We have his precise status today, we just have to "go back in time" following the rule and see if he was working or not on his last birthday
