After Poor Interview, Can You Gain Wharton Admission as a Reapplicant?
Some of you may have recently received disappointing news following your interview with Wharton. As we all know, the Wharton full-time MBA admissions interview is unique and challenging. You must participate in a group discussion around a designated topic and produce a deliverable in front of admissions committee members. In doing so, you must demonstrate your strong collaboration skills, ability to add valued insights, comfort participating in a rigorous exchange of ideas and skill in articulating ideas clearly and persuasively.
For those of you who have gone through the Wharton interview process but subsequently received a rejection, the good news is that you got so far in the admissions process! Landing the interview is an achievement. If you have your heart set on Wharton, it can be worth trying again. This year, we have so far helped all of our candidates who came to MBA Admit.com following rejections from Wharton to gain admission on their second try.
It is important that you first determine what areas of your profile are soft spots that need to be strengthened. It could be that the major factor in your rejection was your performance in the group interview. If that is the case, during the time you have before reapplying, you should put yourself in environments that make you speak up in a collaborative setting or practice your speaking skills through other activities such as participating in Toastmasters.
You should also review your prior Wharton application carefully, or secure a formal Ding Analysis, to determine what areas could be improved. At times, your essays could have been more finely honed. Perhaps the essay content was off, failing to convey how you would be a great addition to the school. Maybe the admissions committee did not see your short-term or long-term goals as achievable. Perhaps your extracurricular activities should be strengthened. Whatever the shortcomings, once you identify the shortcomings, you should use the time you have before reapplying to improve in those areas.
As seen through the outcomes of our reapplicants this year, all of whom have so far gained admission on their second try, Wharton is very open to reapplicants! So, if you choose to try again, strengthen those weak spots of your profile, prepare extensively for the interview, and give it your best shot!
