All 50 employees in Company X take one of the two courses, NLP and HLP. What is the average (arithmetic mean) age of the employees in the company?

(1) In the company, the average age of the employees in the NLP course is 40.

(2) In the company, the average age of the employees in the HLP course is 3/4 of the average age of the employees in the NLP course.

We need to find the average age of company X people , Total people is 50

Option 1: 
NLP course people is of the age 40
So that does not tell anything about the number of people in each group nor it tells about the number of people in each group

Option2 :
HLP people 3/4 of NLP people's age but it does not say anything about the amount of people in each group

option 1+2:
NLP people 40 yrs 
HLP = 30 yrs

but still we don't know the number of people in each group. lets say there are 25 in each group then we will have average of 35 but if there is 10 in NLP and 40 in HLP then the average becomes 32 . so can't say even with both option . Hence it should be E

The number of employees who take either NLP or HLP = 50.

Average age of the employees = Total age / number of employees = Total age /50.

Statement 1:

(1) In the company, the average age of the employees in the NLP course is 40.

We don’t know the average age of HLP course or the number of employees who undertake each course module. Hence,  Insufficient.

Statement 2:

(2) In the company, the average age of the employees in the HLP course is 3/4 of the average age of the employees in the NLP course.

The ratio of average ages of HLP : NLP = 3x: 4x. And, x can take any value. Hence,  insufficient.

Combining Both Statements,  we get

Nothing conclusive can be achieved with the information provided in both statements. Hence,  Insufficient .
