One doubt that, We don't have a noun that she or her can directly refer to, Jane's charm, is only mentioned in which, Jane is used as appositive to modify charm but Jane in not explicitly mentioned, so according to me, no answer should be ideally correct, but out of all I think answer should be D

Hello Simbamalik,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, although in the past, the GMAT considered the use of a subject pronoun ("she" in this case) to refer to a possessive pronoun ("Jane's" in this case), this rule has since been relaxed.

We hope this helps.
All the best!

Although Jane's charm and beauty draws people to her, she is somewhat insecure.

A. and beauty draws people to her, she is somewhat

B. and beauty draw people to her, she is nevertheless

C. and beauty draw people to her, she is a bit

D. and beauty draw people to her, she is

E. and her beauty draws people to her, she is slightly

This is a SC Butler Question

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Although Jane's charm and beauty draws people to her, she is somewhat insecure.

A. and beauty draws people to her, she is somewhat

Incorrect.

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. The plural subject charm and beauty does not agree with the singular verb draws.

What helps us identify this question as a Subject Verb Agreement question as well as identify the mistake is the following Stop Sign:

A plural subject made up of singular nouns connected by and

B. and beauty draw people to her, she is nevertheless

Incorrect.

While this answer choice corrects the original Subject Verb Agreement mistake, it is stylistically flawed. Adding the opposition word nevertheless creates redundancy as the sentence already includes an opposition word (Although).

In addition, the omission of the word somewhat slightly changes the meaning of the original sentence.

C. and beauty draw people to her, she is a bit

This answer choice corrects the original Subject Verb Agreement mistake, by changing the singular verb draws to the plural verb draw, to match the plural subject charm and beauty.

Notice that the change of wording from somewhat to a bit does not change the meaning of the original sentence.

D. and beauty draw people to her, she is

Incorrect.

While this answer choice corrects the original Subject Verb Agreement mistake, the omission of the word somewhat changes the meaning of the original sentence. Being insecure is not the same as being somewhat insecure.

E. and her beauty draws people to her, she is slightly

Incorrect.

This answer choice repeats the original mistake. The plural subject charm and beauty does not agree with the singular verb draws.

What helps us identify this question as a Subject Verb Agreement question as well as identify the mistake is the following Stop Sign:

A plural subject made up of singular nouns connected by and

Also, this answer choice is stylistically inferior to the original sentence. The addition of the word her before the word beauty creates redundancy.
