But is it unclear which word "its" in A refers to? the world or the production sector?

Actually, it is very clear. Is there any other noun in singular form before the first comma? The only logical antecedent to its must be production sector, not manufacturing facilities (as that is plural).

As I said in the previous reply, I think its not clear whether it refers to "world" or "production sector" as both of them are in singular form.

But the world's sales is totally nonsensical. Make sure to look at the meaning of the sentence, don't just blindly eliminate pronouns.

Did you try this? How about +KUDOS for me? :-D

I rejected A because the production sector cannot add anything...anthropomorphism.

A is the best answer. D and E are dangling modifiers. The rest has tense issues.

(A) the production sector has currently added many new manufacturing units around the world and its profit figures have increased unexpectedly, its
Although "currently" confused me, the sentence obeys parallel structure (tenses) and meaning intact.

(B) the production sector has currently added many manufacturing units around the world and its profit figures increased unexpectedly, its
Omits the word "new", therefore changing the meaning. Also, used past tense

(C) many new manufacturing units have been opened around the world and its profit figures increased unexpectedly, the production sector’s
possessive pronoun issue, it is not clear what it is referring to - the production sector's cannot take the noun role here.

(D) having recently added many new manufacturing units around the world and with the profit figures increasing unexpectedly, the production sector's
Wrong modifier, the production sector's sales cannot add new manufacturing units.

(E) currently adding many new manufacturing units around the world and having the profit figures increase unexpectedly, the production sector's
Same as in choice D.
