say total panel = 100x
purchase cost per panel = 100p
total revenue = 10000px

now in may sold 2/5 of total panel.
so total sold in may = 40x
and left= 60x

now this 40x are being sold at purchase cost of actual entire shipment. that means these 40x were sold at total price of 10000px.
so now price for 1 panel = 10000px / 40x =250p.
so total revenue = 10000px

now she sold 9/10 of remaining, that means she sold 54 and left are only 6.
she sold these 54 at 40% of may selling price.
so sp = (2/5) * 250p = 100p

so total revenue from this sale = 54x * 100p = 5400px

now the last 6 are donated so no revenue from it. just loss.

so total revenue = 10000px + 5400px= 15400px
total cost = 10000px

profit = 5400px

percentage of profit = 5400px/ 10000px = 54%

Aly purchased a shipment of solar panels and sold \(\tfrac{2}{5}\) of the panels in May for the purchase cost of the entire shipment. She then sold \(\tfrac{9}{10}\) of the remaining panels at a 60% discount from the May selling price per panel and donated the rest to charity. What percent profit did Aly make?

(A) 30%
(B) 36%
(C) 40%
(D) 50%
(E) 54%
