Hi. I am 39 years old. B.Pharm from BITS Pilani and PGDM from IIM Bangalore. 12 plus years experience in direct Marketing in MNC ad agency. Some teaching experience at IIMB as Guest Faculty.
GMAT - 780 (V99 percentile, Q 95 percentile)
GPA - 3.45 in undegrad, 3 in IIM
Recos - can get excellent one from boss and decent one from 1 Prof. Not so hot one from another Prof
Planning to apply to the foll

MIT, Kellogg's, UCLA, Columbia, NYU, UTA, Texas A&M, GSB Chicago, Boston univ, Maryland, Michigan Ann Arbor, Cornell, olin washington.

questions:
1. Am i aiming too high in applying to the top univs?
2. I have relevant experience since I want to do research in the same area. does this count?
3. My GPA is not so hot. Will a good SOP and my GMAT score offset this?
4. any other advice?

Go for Wharton and Columbia - from what I know they pretty much pick the best GMATS and admit them!!!

Should not be much of a problem. Diversify to include LBS and Insead in your target schools, if Europe is not much of a problem, both these schools are not biased against older applicants - which may be a problem with some of your target schools. Do check it out with current PHD student profiles - are available on school website.

Your key in SOP will be to justify why you want to do PhD now. So do make sure you have a good line on that !
