An automated assembly device simultaneously installs capacitors and resistors on circuit boards of a particular design and size. The device can install capacitors at a maximum rate of two per second and resistors at a maximum rate of four per ten seconds. With the device working continuously and simultaneously at these maximum rates, the number of capacitors and resistors the device installs in one minute is exactly the number needed to complete four of the circuit boards.

Select for Capacitors and Resistors the required number of capacitors and the required number of resistors, respectively, on each of the circuit boards. Make only two selections, one in each column.


Capacitors

Given rate: 2/second

Rate per minute: 2/second × 60 seconds/minute = 120/minute

Number on each circuit board: 120/4 = 30

Resistors

Given rate: 4/10 seconds

Rate per minute: 4/10 seconds × 60 seconds/minute = 24/minute

Number on each circuit board: 24/4 = 6

Correct answer: 24, 6

Capacitors 2 per second = 120 per minute
Resistors 4 per 10 seconds = 24 per minute

Combined 144 per minute per 4 boards = 36 per board

of the 36 per board, 30 will be capacitors and 6 will be resistors as the ration is 5 : 1.


Answers are 30 and 6.
