MGMAT Explanation:
well, d has two problems, at least:
- 'projects X to do Y' is unidiomatic. (you can just say 'projects NOUN', as is done in choice e, or you can say something like 'projects that X will do Y').
- an average is a single data point, so there's no such thing as 'averag[ing] from 1.8 to 6.3'. on the other hand, it's quite possible for a single data point to fall between two given values.

(A) project an average global warming that will be between 1.8 and
(B) project an average global warming to be from 1.8 to
(C) project global warming that will average between 1.8 and
(D) projects global warming to average from 1.8 to
(E) projects an average global warming of between 1.8 and

please explain ..

Group is collective noun so projects...
between d and E i will go with E though "of" is awkward because in D pronoun "from" is wrong....it should be between...

This particular problem is of Subject Verb Relationship. Here the "Internation Group" is singular so its verb (Projects) should also be singular.
It eliminate choices A, B, C.
In 'D', "Warming to" is not idiomatic correct.

An international group.... projects (proper S-V agreement)
an average global warming......between 1.8 and 6.3 (between x and y)
rather than,
projects global warming ....... from 1.8 to 6.3
the intent of the author is to project the averageof global warming, not the global warming itself.
(E) wins

Subject verb agreement satisfies D & E. Following came to my mind while attempting this.
An average is a point in 'between x & y' while an increase in average would have been 'from x to y'.
So answer is E.

I got it correct! E...projects is singular and global warming is between X & Y ...not from X to Y...

Group - Projects...
A group projects something... Not projects something 'to do' something else...
So, E.

I can see why its E because of subject - verb agreement and because of between X and Y

But "average" global warming of between just doesn't sound right! Can someone clarify this usage..

A simpler way to put this is when you are talking from 1.8 to 6.3, it includes the number 1.8 and 6.3, if in the range you have smallest as 1.8 and 6.3, your average cannot be 1.8 or 6.3, it has to be somewhere in between hence E is the correct choice as against D

Average is a single value and cannot vary over a range. Hence E is preferrable to D.

According to idioms, 'between' should be followed by 'and' and not 'to'. Therefore eliminate B & D. Among A, C and E, projects is correctly used as group is singular. Therefore E is the answer

The question tests two things.
1. SV Agreement,
2. Average Vs Range.

1. An international group (Group=Collective Noun) = Projects

2. Average from 1.8 to 6.3 OR
Average of between 1.8 and 6.3

Logic: Average is always between X and Y
Ex: Sachin Tendulkar's average is between 90 to 140

Range is from X to Y

Hope it helps!

E for me.
since its group so A,B and C out. Between D and E, D changes the mean. So E.

Ans E. Two splits :

international group - singular, hence A,B, C is wrong.

Average requires between ... and...

I quickly fell from Ans A. hope it doesnt happen in future :(

btn is it really a 700 level question ?

All would be able to narrow down to D and E as a singular verb projects is required. Now between D and E, the average is a single data point and cannot be a range hence average from X to Y is incorrect. However average can be between 2 numbers hence we can go for E.

That's very good point Shivam...shows how logic is an integral part of SC.

Subject is International group", which is singular. So projects is correct form. From 1.8 to 6.3 changes the meaning of the sentence.
Hence. correct option is E
