given
x+y=22
and
5x+2y=74
solve for x
x= 10

let the number of staplers = x

the number of boxes of staplers = 22 - x

as per the question ,

5x + 2( 22 - x) = 74

5x + 44 - 2x = 74

3x = 30

x = 10.
