I took the test this past weekend and got a total score of 710 (Q44/V42). My quantitative score is much lower than I anticipiated, it is several points lower than I scored on any of my practice tests, but my verbal is also much higher than I had been getting. I also found the quant section of the test significantly harder than any practice test and I thought because the questions were so hard it meant I was doing well. However, my math is only 70th percentile while verbal is 95th percentile and overall is 92nd percentile. I am satisfied with my overall score, but will it be an issue applying to MBA schools in the top 20 with my math score? Also, how does 70 and 95 average to 92?? Is it possible that the percentiles may change as more people take the test?

Congratulations. That's a good score. I'm not sure how adcoms will see your split.

What CATs are you comparing the GMAT Quant to?

They don't average the percentiles, they look at how common or rare your final score combination is. It's like sports: someone who can score 20 points per game in the NBA isnt rare. Someone who can rebound 10 rebounds a game isn't that rare either. Someone who can both score 20 points and grab 10 rebounds? That is extremely rare...

No, they don't adjust the percentiles after the test, yours is locked in once you receive the official report. I think they compare it to previous scores only.

I took 3 Kaplan tests and 2 GMAT Prep tests. I didn't even know about this website until after I took the test, I wish I did! I generally do very well with standardized math tests, and I thought the quant sections on all of the practice tests were fair and there was only the occasional question that stumped me. On the real test I felt like so many questions were very difficult and I had to spend a lot more time on questions than I normally did. I feel like I can pretty well identify a challenging question from a moderate level question. Again, I thought that given the adaptive format, if there were so many difficult questions it meant that I was doing well, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I don't have my official score report yet, only the printout from the exam. On the printout it says that the percentile rankings change every year so my ranking might change.
