Ann deposited money into 2 accounts, A and B. Account A earns 8% simple interest and B earns 5% simple interest. If there were no other transactions, A gained how much more interest in the first year than did B in the first year?

1) Ann invested $200 more in B than she did in A
2) The total amount of interest gained by the 2 accounts in the first year was $120

I'm pretty terrible at DS but this looks like a "C" to me.

Statement 1: B = 200+A; insuff
Statement 2: (.08)A + (.05)B = $120; insuff

To me, it looks like C will give you two equations with two variables; that should be enough to solve the equation.

question about z= .08*x - .05*y

1) x = y + 200 - insufficient -> one equation, two variables
2) .08x + .05y = 120 - insufficient -> one equation, two variables

1&2 allows to solve for x and y -> calculate z

1. A = B - 200
2. A * 0.08 + B * 0.05 = 120

.13 B = 104, i.e B = 800, Hence A = 600.
