If you retake, getting the ESR to get more insight into the 710 may be helpful. Fair to say practicing "a bit too intensely" and finding "it hard to sleep well the night before" could have had a bit of an impact.

i'm annoyed and i know i can score around 740 but i need to do something. right now, it feels like take the 710 and run along. feel a bit clueless. and tired.

Perhaps take a few days to think over it/see how you feel. Consider also working with a study buddy who is strong on Quant. Your last mock had a very high Verbal score V47 (V41 on the actual). The Quant remained about the same on both the mock and exam Q45/Q46. Similar to your last mock, it's possible to get a 740+ score on an actual exam with a Q45 with a high Verbal score (had a retake student who went from a 650 to a 750 in about 30 days mainly as the result of their V37 going to a V48) but the scoring at that level becomes quite steep. A V48 is actually the result of only a single counted question being incorrect, for example.

Boosting the Quant may open more options for a 740+ score (and help take some of the pressure off what you need on Verbal).

How to score high on the GMAT. Why solving approach is important.

i score 730, 740 on official mocks but in real exam 710 is my best attempt. is it because i practise a bit too intensely before my real exam and am a bit more tense? one factor is there for sure, i find it hard to sleep well the night before the real exam. context; last mock q45, v 47 :740, real attempt: q 46, v 41 :710. ugh. i'm annoyed and i know i can score around 740 but i need to do something. right now, it feels like take the 710 and run along. feel a bit clueless. and tired.
Hi Shikhar22,

710 is a very good score. If this was your first GMAT, maybe a retake is all you need to get to your target score of 730/740. Whether you need to retake is a different matter.

thank you all for your suggestions. i'm gonna try again because im sure this is not my optimal score. i think i can increase both the verbal and quant score. i will have to learn to relax before exam, sleep well and not worry too much about the score. i will let you all know what happens in a few days.

Hi all. 740 today. the most bizarre aspect of all this is that my both of the real exam attempts were on the back of virtually no sleep the night before. i will probably see a doctor about this. its so annoying. i even meditate, but the night before the main event my mind races with no stopping. I got 740 today with merely 1hr of sleep even after swallowing a melatonin gummy. My aim was 760+ and i felt i had it in me to score 780 too. But, i feel i should stop now. It's not very enjoyable. Im happy with IR score of 6 too. I would definitely write a post thanking all of you mentors here and BB, for making this super-helpful platform.

last mock q45, v 47 :740, real attempt: q 46, v 41 :710
Shikhar, you can't really bank upon getting a V47 in Verbal every time. V47 is an exceptionally high score and even 1-2 additional questions that you get wrong, will bring down your Verbal score significantly (and hence the total score).

It is clear that Quant is an issue. So, try to bring the Quant score to at least a Q48.
