Please correct the following sentences:

a) The blue dress looks more flattering on you than the red one.

b) Three times more students attended the prom this year than last year.

I have a doubt in the corrrections.

My take:
The blue dress looks more flattering on you than does the red one.
Comparing how the blue dress looks on you with how the red dress looks on you.

Three times more students attended the prom this year than those that did last year.

i think both forms of b) are right, your version is less verbose.

As for a) " blue dress looks" should be parallely compared to "red one does" where does is referring to looks, rather than "does the red one"

But take a look at this:

a) ..........than did last year
b) ..........than does the red one.

Isn't the constuction similar?

In (a) we are comparing 'more students attended' and in 
(b) we are comparing 'blue dress looks'

Anyways my question still remains unanswered.

Anyone with a clear understanding of how both the versions differ and which has to be
the correct one.
