Hi
lth0707,
two of the main purposes of the "
walk me through your resume" question are:
(1) To see if the candidate has progressed over the years
(2) To understand the rationale/logic behind each job change
So, if you believe it is critical to explain your career goals and need for an MBA now in your resume walkthrough, I would advise you to do so. But don't go into too much detail. I'm not saying this to give your interviewers the possibility to ask follow-up questions, but because if you go into too much detail, and therefore your answer ends up being too long and "off-track", your interviewers could get lost and, potentially, even lose interest.
Over the years, I have interviewed thousands of candidates (especially, during my time as Head of HR of one Samsung's subsidiaries, but also as an MBA admissions interviewer), and I have always started my interviews with "
Walk me through your resume". And as you can imagine, I have seen all kinds of answers and all lengths. Although I support the 2-3-minute rule of thumb, the length of their answers hasn't been what I cared about the most. Among other aspects, what I have appreciated has been their ability to explain their career path in a clear and structured way leaving no doubt that they have indeed progressed over the years, and their ability to describe the rationale/logic behind their career choices. Whether it took them 3 or 5 minutes wasn't that important.
But again, the more detailed and the longer your answer is could lead to your interviewers losing track of your career path and make them think you don't have the ability to be structured and succinct. So, do briefly explain your career goals and why an MBA now to support the choices you have made but leave the details for when you get asked directly those two questions.
I hope this helps.
Thank you very much.
Warm regards
Alex
