Hi guys,
I was just wondering what you think about the anwers explanations given in the OG for the questions in quant? I personally think most (not all) are verbose and complicated, especially the DS explanations. For DS, I usually like plugging in numbers to see if the equations are sufficient or not. So what are your thought processes for the questions? Do you plug in numbers or do you think like the book does?

depends on the question, but the OG solutions are complicated because they want to illustrate the concept behind the problem. If you are faster and more accurate plugging in numbers, go for it. But beware that if you hit a hard problem where plugging-in doesn't work, you'll NEED to understand the concept to do the problem fast and correct.
I would still read how they go through each problem for Quant in the OG, and learn some shortcuts from their methods... that's my 2 cents.

keep in mind the OG has no vested interest in your success. they do not necessarily show you the only way or the quickest way to do something.... but they do show the correct way!
