Any golden rule pls share

Question

Hi,
I am looking for a golden rule which distinguishes between the usages of As vs Like...I have looked at this post as-like-98303.html which was a very elaborative compilation on this distinction...which is very informative...but still I was not sucessful in solving more than half of the SC question...Does anyone know the golden rules to be followed for the usage of As and Like while reading an SC question ?

But remember there are not "golden rules" in GMAT. Just think that they are references.
For example, the word "being" usually is wrong in GMAT, BUT NOT ALWAYS.
The only golden rule is practice. If you have doubts about an specific question, post it here. This is the best way to improve your score.

One thing I actually took away from princeton review and wasn't found in the MGMAT SC guide was this 'rule'. It seems to help me with the difference, but I'm curious if it's controversial since it's not used in both.

As - compares actions (A-Actions)
Like - compares nouns

'Like' is used to compare similar nouns where as 'as' is used to compare actions.

Yes, indeed

To simplify it, as generally compares/precedes actions/clauses and 'like' compares/precedes nouns.

Like his mother, he frets over the house being clean.

As his mother does, he cleans the house regularly.

However, please also note that 'as' can be used to refer to the function of something/someone:  The bigger boy was used as a shield to protect the smaller boy from the bullies.

If you see a noun after the 'as' do not immediately eliminate it; make sure you understand whether it is used to compare or to show the function of something/someone.
