Hello mbaMission,

I am about to apply for an MBA program after this summer (first round of spring entrance), please help evaluate my profile, thank you very much!

Asian Male (Green card holder)
College major and minors: BA in Media Advertising, minors in Business and Applied Math
GPA: graduated with a 2.8 CGPA and 3.4 Major GPA
GRE/GMAT: 317 in GRE with a perfect quant score, will not take it again (3rd tries).
Working experience: unable to find any job or internship immediately after graduation, ended up getting a loan from my family and becoming the co-founder and sales director of a highly profitable consumer product company. In the past three years, the team that I am currently supervising has generated more than $20MM in sales revenue,

Other relevant information: I dropped out of my first university's Bioengineering program 8 years ago, due to depression and academic struggles (1.55 CGPA). I then received a semester of academic probations in my second school (but on the dean's list immediately after the probation semester).

I am looking at some part-time or online programs such as Fordham, IU Bloomington Kelley, Auburn, Baruch College, Babson College, Purdue and John Hopkins.

Do I have any hope in these schools?

Hi richards1993,
To cut to the chase, yes I think you have a shot at some of the programs you mentioned. Your GRE score is great and should be above average for all of the schools you listed. Test stats are also typically less competitive for part-time / online options, because it's a different pool of applicants. From a work experience perspective, it sounds like you're at a good stage to get your MBA and have some strong results you can point to. A bit of a less typical path to get there, but it sounds like you've grown a lot since then.

Your academic history will present a bit of a challenge. Be upfront about it and write an optional essay explaining the probations. Provide evidence of your maturity and growth since then.

Thank you so much for this wonderful reply. I retook the GRE exam yesterday and received a 333 out of 340, with a perfect quant score. Do I stand any chance of getting into Georgetown's online program or Northwestern's part-time program?

Thanks for the update. That's an excellent GRE score. Above average even for most full-time programs. Yes, I think if you write a strong optional essay about your college transcript, you stand a chance at those schools.
