Hi!
I am in a similar situation. I tried to select a bschool by first deciding, whether I want to do a 2 year or a 1 year MS, this helped me rule out few universities. The other parameter that I used is the cost. So, for eg. Universities in France rank higher than universities in Germany but, the cost(living expense & fees etc) is almost double. And financing does play an important role.
Apart from that, ranking does not always matter. SPJIMR is a top tier bschool in India was included in FT rankings last year. Also you can look upto HHL current students and alumni, as to what their job profile is. Does that match you desired job role? I think they focus mostly on Consulting.
Hope this helps!
Hey,
Thanks, really appreciate your reply.
the duration of program is not a big deal as long as it adds value. I did take location as a factor and I don't want to work in France, thats how I rolled out most of the good Bschool (I know all major MiM prog. are in France but I think it has become a common destination and I am being realistic here I don't have profile to get into HEC/ESSEC so might as well try some other place, Imperial is my dream next choice would be other UK prog.). The cost can be a good factor but I first want to list out good schools that fit my choice (subjects they teach, internships etc.) so after I can narrow it down by cost and also i would take language into account as I would have to learn a whole new language for getting a good job (good reason to lean toward English speaking countries).
I am not a big fan of rankings either but they seem to the only way to find top good programs. Talking about roles, as far as my research goes most BSchool promise some common roles in Consulting/Project Managment and Finance, very less schools (Only top 5 maybe?) give you some diverse roles.
I have made a hot mess here didn't I?
I never knew choosing schools would be this hard, I wonder what would happen at the time of application.
