I think this one's a straight E for correct parallelism and appropriate modification - it's the novels that should be in parallel and not the names of the authors. Finally the article A is required before Black American - written by a black american rather than written by black americans.

E. changed to E from B as I thought it needs black americans but later realized that a black american is ok.

If you chose E, Then Either we all are wrong or the OA which is B.

I chose C. use of "being" is almost always wrong on the GMAT.

I guess its the difference between Black Americans and a Black American.

I dunno why it has to be Black Americans.

hmmm, i'm confused. I choose E on this one because I thought "a black american" was referring to the author....any verbal gurus want to chime in?

GBB - C cant be right. Because the context here is novels not the authors.

E is the best.

A and D are incorrect as they compare the book with authors.

B is incorrect for two reasons - 1. using 'Black Americans'. Here the particular book is written by an American not my Americans. So using plural is not correct. 2. Using 'including'. Examples are not usually quoted by 'including'.

C is unnecessarily wordy.

I also thought it's E, but after looking at both B and E again, I think the answer is B.

We are talking about "the best novels". The subject has to be plural. So B is right.
