I don't think HBS has any school-organized treks before classes start, but the messages boards are chalk full of student-organized ones.
and i find this to be a strange criterion for choosing schools to apply to

I've already picked the schools I'm applying to. I'm just curious. The trips seem really cool.

UCLA has a domestic trek thing, ranging from National Parks to Hawaii.

Stanford has some California local treks.

Those are the only two others I'm familiar with.

Ross has something like it. I think Kellogg has the most options (36 or 37 destination) and the most students go on it...something like 85% and many significant others. I suggest where ever you go if its offered go on it. Probably one of the best ways to get to know some classmates and a lot of the trips are amazing. Kellogg has trips ranging from Thailand to hiking in Norway to skiing in Argentina (I think steels doing that) to the Amazon.

Oh yeah, at Haas we get to sit in a classroom with each other for 2 weeks doing math and communications skills. Now THAT'S what I call a good bonding experience!

At HKUST we all go away to some hotel for 2 days, and then we go on some sort of local activity trek for another 2 days... something I may not be able to do properly because I'm still injured :(

Anyone who has a chance to go on these trips, absolutely go. You will come in with friends, a network, study partners to pick from, etc. I can't stress this enough. Short of missing your own wedding, you should absolutely go.

Or, you could get married and honeymoon to Fiji. That might be pretty cool too... somebody did that, I think.. :-D

As a postscript: reading your post jogged my memory and (as is often advised) I utilized the search function to find the post where you shared the photos from your trip. The photos are now 404 which left me a bit wistful. While the pictures may not have added value to the knowledge base they were a lovely testament to the positive qualities of the community, both in your being motivated to share and the uniformly positive response the generated. ...back to lurking now.

Yeah, but you get to hang out in Berkeley! :-D

Stanford has outdoor trips in California and surrounding states. Lots of fun, but not quite at the level of KWEST (which, I agree, looked amazing).
