Applicants to a certain university may apply to either medicine school or dentistry school. 120 of the applicants applied only to dentistry school, and 80 students applied to both medicine school and dentistry school. If 220 applicants applied to medicine school, how many applicants applied to the university?

I would say since 220 applied to medicine school and 80 applied both to medicine and dentist -> 220-80=140 applied to medicine school only.
Thus 140+80+120= 340 -> B

Solve with 2-D Matrix.
We know that 120 people applied for the dentistry school only (D and not M).
Furthermore, the task tells us that 80 people applied for both (D and M) and 220 in total applied to the medicine school (M total).
We can infer that 0 people applied to none of the school since the first sentence tells us that they have to apply to at least one of them ("either ... or").
Therefore, we can infer that that 220-80=140 people applied only to medicine school (not D and M) and 140 people in total did not apply to dentistry school.
The sum of the people that applied to dentistry school (D total) and the ones that did not (not D total) gives us the total number of people.
200 + 140 = 340 -> Answer B.
