Ok, I graduated in June 2005 started working in July 2005. So, no gaps in my career. However, the university I graduated from sent us the official degree certificates only in Feb 2006 (and this is the date on the degree certificate). Don't ask me why, but that's the way they did it (and still do it). Here's my problem: On all the applications, for the question "Date Degree Recived", which do I put?

1. June, 2005 and explain in the optional essay why the date printed on the degree certificate is Feb, 2006
2. Feb, 2006 and explain in the optional essay that the 'gap' between June, 2005 and Feb, 2006 isn't really a gap.

Thanks in advance. Jeez, the things we applicants have to put up with... :)

July 05. No need for an optional essay. It should be clear by looking at the transcripts that you were not in school at that time.

Krip, I faced the same problem with self-reported transcripts. In some places I bypassed that problem by scanning the original certificates and uploading, and in some places I mentioned the month in which my classes ended. I do not know whether that is a right approach.

May be some others can suggest a better solution.

This should be a non-issue. When I applied for my master's it never came up. I wouldn't think this warrants an optional essay either.

I'll add that this is the kind of thing that might get clarified post-admittance during the routine checks. Though, honestly, I doubt it would be even then. What they are really looking for on those are signs of gross misrepresentation (you say you lived in IL from 04-06 as a banker but filed taxes in NY those years and apparently filed as a student) or things that would cause concern (you were arrested for aggravated sexual assault and soliciting a minor)..
