2021-2022 MBA Application Volumes for Top MBA Programs:
* Sloan's decline was higher than others due to a big bump the year before
Main culprit - good economy and generous paychecks. When the economy and job market are doing well, the applications go down and this time they have been struggling despite all of the concessions that have been made by the business schools - GMAT/GRE, Test Optional, extended deadlines, reduction in essays/application burden, no need to travel for interviews, application fee waivers, you name it and it is still 15% down

Surprisingly I have heard that UNC and Kelley have actually grown their application pools!
Soon it will be easier to get into HBS than UNC
WSJ reported on the latest trends at HBS and a few other top schools.

As per this article, applicant pool is going down for domestic students. UNC saw high volume of applications because of international applicants especially applicants from India, Nigeria and Kenya.

They have to recruit domestic students. It’s hard to be a US business school with 70% international students. 🥴
Several business schools have gone down that path and it’s a death spiral…
PS. Interestingly enough, this is the reflection of applicants, all applicants, including those who may have no reason or business to be applying at all… who may have applied to try their luck… esp if they get GMAT and App fee waiver…
PS. UNC said this year’s class was 36% international vs 26% last year but 33% is the running average really… so some of the numbers are really normalizing after pandemic. Sloan was down 25% but apparently that’s after a big increase in applications the year before.… 🤷♂️
