Hi, everyone!
I was wondering if there truly is a major difference between applying in R2 and R3 for MiM programmes in schools like HEC, ESSEC, St. Gallen, Bocconi, etc. (most of these have 4 or 5 rounds, so R3 is not the last one)?
I have asked admissions representatives from some of the above-mentioned schools and most of them said something along the lines of "it doesn't really matter, if your application is stronger in R3, apply then (e.g. better GMAT score), but don't apply in the last round".
However, a lot of web pages like mim-essay, etc. suggest that you are at a disadvantage if you apply in R3 since there are fewer spaces left. I thought that there is a fixed amount of spaces allocated for each round and R1 and R2 usually experience the highest volume of applicants, so wouldn't that make the first two rounds more competitive? I'm just confused by the stark difference between what admissions officers say and what these websites suggest.
The reason I am considering R3 is because I would have more time to prepare for the GMAT, which I think will inevitably give me a better score and a stronger application.

Hi,
Since the seats keep filling with each round, the competition naturally increases towards the end. There are two factors to consider here - the readiness of your application and the application window you are in.
If your application is 90% ready and you are in R1, finalize and submit. However, if almost 40% or so is remaining, you are better off taking more time and applying for the next round. If the B-school has 5-6 rounds there will not be a major difference between R2 and R3. Try to avoid applying in the last round.
If you are an international student, it's also important to apply early as it will give you more time to get your visa process approved and your travel arrangements in order, post a successful admit.
