I'm getting ready to apply to several US MBA schools, and from what I understand, from an admission standpoint, international students are treated differently than American students. I may be reading into the admissions process too much, but in my opinion it's best to get whatever edge is available to me. I am half Latino (fathers side) living in Canada, with French & Canadian Citizenship (I can also get Chilean citizenship fairly easily). Here is my question:
Is there an advantage to apply as Hispanic/Latino for International students?
Should I apply using a French / Canadian / Chilean citizenship?
Do schools still care if your family attended (legacy)? My father graduated from Berkeley (PHD) as did my brother (BA).
work exp: 7 years Capital Markets (VP Currency sales + business development)

Hi there,
International students can sometimes have an edge when it comes to competing against other candidates and every school likes to have a diverse classroom. There are often (unadvertised) 'quotas' if you will of certain number of international students from particular regions of the world. If you put down Chilean as your nationality (but of course can also put down dual nationality) then you will be competing with a smaller pool which could in turn be a benefit for you. As long as you have a strong profile and meet the academic requirements as well as show strong leadership skills (or potential leadership), and have a well rounded background (lots of extra curriculars etc) plus the right fit with that school, then your chances are very high compared to competing against other Americans.
And yes it helps to know alumni from certain schools but won't make or break your application. It's not for certain you would be admitted just because you had family that went there.
